Design Philosophy
I learned about the phrase “form follows function” when I was studying architecture, and that philosophy is always in the back of my head when I’m designing a space. I don’t believe any spaces should be designed to just “look pretty” - everything you surround yourself with should have either a story, a function, or a justification. If I’m designing your living room, I want to see framed pictures of your family and friends on the bookshelves or collectibles you bought on vacation. If you buy a new chair for your living room, I believe you should enjoy using it and not simply looking at it.
My personal style is uncluttered, familiar, and comfortable with layers of textures and patterns. There is no color I refuse to use and no style that I think is “outdated” (every style comes back around at some point anyways!). I listen to my clients, fill in the gaps between what they know they don’t like and what they know they love, and help create a cohesive vision of a space that represents the person or brand it is designed for.
